Cleveron disrupts the market with a battery-powered parcel locker
Estonian tech company Cleveron, specialising in developing and manufacturing parcel robots and lockers, launched Cleveron 354, a battery-powered parcel locker, earlier this year. With the mission to make parcel delivery more sustainable, the latest solution also gives freedom for companies to build their own parcel locker network according to their business needs and customer expectations.
In 2007 Cleveron disrupted the market by establishing a nationwide parcel locker network; then, in 2023, Cleveron launched a battery-powered parcel locker, Cleveron 354, with a mission to reduce CO2 emissions by 70% across the entire last-mile sector. Ott Pabut, COO of Cleveron, says: “Our projections show that within a decade, 80% of last-mile deliveries in Europe will be conducted via parcel lockers, emerging as the preferred method among end customers. Cleveron 354 has a lot of potential to make that shift. Cleveron’s battery-powered parcel locker offers flexibility for companies – the parcel locker can be installed basically anywhere, also in places where it has not been possible before. It allows companies to expand and adjust their locker network according to their business needs.”
Strategically placed lockers encourage parcel collection and returns from nearby solutions, thereby reducing the number of delivery vehicles on the roads. “Implementing a locker network significantly reduces the need for home deliveries, the costs of which rise yearly. Consumers have shown a willingness to retrieve their parcels within a comfortable 5-minute walking radius, making Cleveron 354 the best solution for network buildouts," says Pabut. In addition to the main module of Cleveron 354, up to 3 extra modules can be added to it. The units communicate via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), and the lifespan of the main unit and extra modules is at least eight years without recharging.
One of the key features of Cleveron 354 is its 24/7 online capabilities, a unique aspect of battery-powered locker solutions. The locker status is automatically and periodically updated using low-power wide-area-networking technologies such as LTE-M and NB-IoT. The locker operator receives real-time updates about their parcel lockers, ensuring continuous monitoring. Replacing grid-connected parcel lockers with Cleveron 354 saves an average of 1.4 tonnes of CO2 per unit within eight years. Also, the average grid-connected parcel locker has an average power consumption of 11W, while a battery-powered parcel locker consumes only 0.006W. Installation of Cleveron 354 is super easy, it takes approximately 20 minutes.
