Cybernetica explores new markets for it’s core portfolio of e-governance, privacy and cybersecurity technologies
Cybernetica is mostly known as a developer of secure e-governance technologies in Estonia as well as globally. Today, the company’s core offerings centre around e-governance and digital transformation technologies such as digital identity, secure data exchange, but also privacy enhancing technologies and cybersecurity services. In recent months, Cybernetica has announced a number of new collaborations that pave the way for new future projects.
In January, the company announced a new memorandum of understanding with Papua New Guinea at the Dubai EXPO, starting from secure data exchange and interoperability. Secure data exchange will build a strong foundation upon which further digital services can be developed. In addition to the technology, however, Cybernetica will also advise stakeholders and offer support, for example, in designing policies required for successful digitalisation.
Cybernetica has also proved in a recent collaboration with Eurostat the feasibility of leveraging secure computation technologies to produce aggregate statistics from mobile network operator data while preserving the anonymity of mobile phone users. The project, ideated and contracted by Eurostat, relied on Cybernetica’s secure computation technology Sharemind. The developed solution allows the processing of data sets from one or more organisations without exposing any individual data points, thus preserving the confidentiality of the data sets and the privacy of the individuals. This shows that organisations can successfully compute public statistics without having to share or lose control of sensitive data.
Cybersecurity has always been ingrained in what the company does and how it approaches projects, however, in a new step Cybernetica has started to offer cybersecurity as a service. The new service portfolio contains cybersecurity risk assessment, consultation on how to prepare for potential attacks, and penetration testing to test an organisation’s vulnerabilities.
Cybernetica’s technology portfolio includes the secure data exchange platform UXP, which is also the foundation to Estonia’s X-road, digital identity technology SplitKey that is used in the Smart-ID service across the whole of Baltics, and has also conducted numerous reports for Estonia on cryptography and has participated in the development of the Estonian information security standards.
