Estonia is an attractive tourist destination
Lonely Planet, the world's largest travel guide, has chosen Tallinn as the best value travel destination of 2018 (Lonely Planet’s best value destination 2018) – this is an important title for tourists, as it will introduce Tallinn and Estonia to many travellers who have never heard of us before.
2017 saw an increase in people from Estonia traveling abroad as well as people visiting us. Estonia was also visited by more conference tourists than before: the main reason for this was the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, though other professional and scientific conferences were also held here. The positive experiences of the conference and business travellers who visit Estonia bring in more and more new travellers – often a first visit is followed by a longer holiday trip with family or friends.
Tallinn Airport statistics also indicate a steady increase in the number of passengers. Last year, 2.65 million passengers travelled through Lennart Meri Airport, meaning for the first time in history, the number of air travellers was twice that of Estonian residents. The airport development activities and tourist sights have been received well – for example, since the very first day of operation many travellers have used the opportunity to take a tram to the city centre.
