Estonia Has Double Taxation Avoidance Agreements with 59 Countries
The Chamber of Commerce proposed the state to consider concluding the double taxation avoidance agreements additionally with at least 12 countries. This list includes, for example, Australia, Brazil and Hong Kong.
At the moment, Estonia has concluded double taxation avoidance agreements with 59 countries. Such agreements have been concluded with all European Union Member States, but also with China, India, the USA, Ukraine, Belarus, Norway and Switzerland. Agreements with seven countries are being prepared.
Double taxation avoidance agreement could also be concluded with Russia
Entrepreneurs are anxiously waiting for Estonia to sign the double taxation avoidance agreement with Russia. The agreement was ratified by Estonia already in 2004 but has not yet entered into force. Considering the relations between Estonia and Russia, it is not realistic to expect that this agreement would enter into force any time soon.
The Chamber proposed the state to consider concluding the agreement with at least 12 other countries. Among the South American countries Estonia could have an agreement with Brazil, Argentina and Chile. At the moment Estonia has no double taxation avoidance agreement with any of the countries of the region.
From the African countries, the Chamber proposed Egypt, Republic of South Africa and Ghana. Among the Asian countries, the agreement should be considered with Indonesia, Taiwan and Hong Kong. Additionally, the Chamber proposed to conclude the agreement with Australia, Yemen and Saudi Arabia.
In 2014, the Chamber sent to the government a list of countries with whom the double taxation avoidance agreement could be signed. From that list, Japan and Kyrgyzstan are the countries with which Estonia has concluded the agreement by now.
The double taxation avoidance agreements promote investments, ensure equal treatment of individuals and remove double taxation that may occur because of the legislation of two countries.
