Estonian manufacturer of electrical equipment and supplies produces electric vehicle charging stations for airports in Norway
At the beginning of this year, the Finnish enterprise Ensto Group commenced the production of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in its Estonian factory. Under its first major order, Ensto Ensek will supply 1,000 vehicle charging stations for dozens of airports in Norway. Ensto offers a wide selection of EV charging stations, from small chargers for domestic use to powerful fast-charging stations.
According to Kaarel Suuk, director of Ensto Ensek’s Keila factory, the entire Ensto Ensek team is very pleased that the manufacturing of charging stations was brought to Estonia. “It is certainly noteworthy that the country with one of the densest electric vehicle charging networks in Europe now has its own production capacity,” Kaarel Suuk said. He added that Ensto Group brought production of charging stations here because Estonia is close to the target markets of the product, and the enterprise is very happy with the production competence of its Estonian factory.
Ensto Ensek concluded a tender contract with the Norwegian company Avinor, under which it will supply 1,000 EV charging stations for dozens of airports in Norway in the first phase of the agreement.
According to Kaarel Suuk, this is the first major order for EV charging stations to be completed by their production team. “I would like to acknowledge all the employees in our factory. To launch a new product family, we had to do a lot of independent learning, develop new processes and carry out a lot of training. We can say that the entire factory was involved in the process.” He said this task has been very successfully handled, as the production figures for the charging stations at the factory have increased month by month since the launch of the project.
The contract is valid for three years and can be extended upon the client’s request. In addition to charging stations, Ensto also provides the Ensto EV Manager software that allows customers to manage and organise the charging stations and collect service fees from consumers.
In total, at least 3% of airport parking lots in Norway will be equipped with the new Ensto charging stations. “In Norway, every other new car is an electric car – so electric vehicle charging stations are becoming a regular part of parking facilities there,” said Kaarel Suuk describing the wide use of electric cars in Norway.
According to Suuk, EV charging stations are among Ensto’s strategic products that focus on the concept of a smart city where the urban infrastructure functions on the principle of the internet of things. “We do not just manufacture charging stations; Ensto also offers a cloud-based service where we take responsibility for the maintenance of devices and provide preventive maintenance,” Kaarel Suuk explains. He added that Ensto Group was one of the first large international electrical technology companies to start developing and manufacturing charging solutions for electric cars.
“Ensto Ensek’s Keila factory is the largest factory in the Ensto Group and we are continuously improving the facilities to manufacture products in Estonia with higher added value,” Kaarel Suuk promised.
Ensto Ensek is a cleantech manufacturer of electrical equipment and supplies operating in Estonia as part of the international enterprise Ensto Group. Ensto Ensek has factories in Keila and Tallinn, with approximately 500 employees working for the company.
